Smoking Policy

Background

Galvin Park Secondary College recognises the danger of smoking and passive smoking causes to health, and the habit forming potential it has for adolescents.

Purpose

The purpose of this Policy is to:

  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985, requires employers to provide a safe work place, as far as practicable, without risks to health. Failure to comply with the Act is an offence.
  • Comply with the DEECD policy on Smoke Free School - Tobacco Prevention and Management for Victorian School - which states; schools should be smoke free environments.
  • Ensure a consistency in terms of how to deal with issues of students smoking in school.
  • Ensure students understand the risks and harms of smoking.
